About

London-based conductor Jason Taing has been remarked upon as “bringing a great interpretive sensibility, flexibility and confidence that belies his years” by composer Richard Fay. Jason is Artistic Director of the Brixton Concert Series where he has curated a number of performances, with a highlight of the 2024/25 season including directing Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances with The Brixton Soloists.

From 2016 to 2021, Jason was Founder and Artistic Director of The Camerata Players and Voices, an ensemble principally comprised of musicians from The University of Manchester and Royal Northern College of Music. As Artistic Director, he curated and conducted a number of diverse programmes in some of Manchester’s most prominent concert venues. Highlights include directing Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2 from the harpsichord, and conducting Schubert’s Mass No. 2, to Dvorak’s monumental Seventh Symphony in Manchester’s historic Holy Name Church. The Camerata Voices made a premiere recording with organist Jack Redman of Philip Lowe’s setting of The Shepherds’ Carol for Banks Music Publications’s Eboracum Choral Series.

In 2023, Jason was invited to be Assistant Conductor of Belfast based-ballet company Six Dance Collective’s world premiere of White Doves, assisting his mentor Jonathan Mann and collaborating with director Ruaidhrí Maguire and composer Amelia Clarkson, culminating in four shows at the Metropolitan Arts Centre in Belfast and most recently acted as Assistant Conductor to Jonathan Mann with the Chineke! Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall.

Greatly in demand as an educator, he has held teaching and directing posts with orchestral, choral and chamber groups as part of the European Youth Music and the University College London Music Society, and is Reserve Conductor of the London Schools’ Symphony Orchestra. He is currently Head of Music 2iC at a secondary school with music specialism with a large team of thirty five, as well as being a GCSE, BTEC and A-Level Examiner for exam boards including Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Jason studied conducting at The University of Manchester with Mark Heron and Robert Guy, and is currently under the mentorship of Jonathan Mann and Colin Metters. He has also studied, and been mentored by Jac van Steen, Jonathan Tilbrook, Barry Wordsworth, Paul Murphy and Toby Purser whom he has worked under with the Orion Orchestra and Sinfonia One.
